Randolph County School System is proud to recognize Southwestern Randolph High School student Alex Perdue for a special moment in the spotlight!
Yesterday, Alex was featured as the “Weather Kid” on WGHP Fox8 alongside meteorologist Van Denton. A resident of Denton, Alex is already sharing his passion by delivering local weather and news updates to his community.
In recognition of Autism Acceptance Month, an exception was made to the program’s typical age requirement—highlighting Alex’s dedication, talent, and bright future in broadcasting.
Alex represents Randolph County with pride, and we can’t wait to see where his passion for weather and news takes him next!
Check out his weather here if you missed it:

RCSS partnered with Samet Corporation to bring this vision to life. While RCSS provided the space and helped shape the overall concept, Samet played a key role in organizing the event—coordinating construction-related businesses, securing industry participation, and helping design a day full of meaningful, hands-on experiences for students.
Throughout the event, students had the opportunity to interact directly with professionals representing a variety of skilled trades, including plumbing, electrical, mechanical, framing, and sanitation. Industry partners led interactive demonstrations and activities that encouraged teamwork while giving students a closer look at the tools, techniques, and daily responsibilities associated with each trade.
These hands-on experiences allowed students to ask questions, build connections, and gain a deeper understanding of the skills and training required to succeed in the construction field. By connecting classroom learning to real-world applications, Construction Trades Day helped students see the value of skilled trades and the critical role they play in building and maintaining communities.
The event not only introduced students to potential career options but also emphasized the many post-graduation pathways available, including apprenticeships, certifications, and technical education programs. Construction Trades Day reflects RCSS’s ongoing commitment to preparing students for success by providing authentic learning opportunities and strong partnerships with industry leaders.

Local business partners helped spark curiosity through interactive booths, engaging activities, info sessions, and impressive vehicle displays—giving students a real-world look at future career pathways.
Experiences like this help connect classroom learning to the world beyond school and inspire the next generation! 🚀
