From Student to Science Teacher: A Cardinal Returns to Inspire the Next Generation

Stella Leonard, a junior at Eastern Randolph High School and Vice President of the Junior Civitan Club, stepped back into her old 5th grade science classroom to create meaningful, hands-on learning experiences for our current 5th graders. Stella reached out to Franklinville in the summer to begin planning a science program that she wanted to begin. Through this program, she connected students at Eastern Randolph High School to local elementary schools to lead science lessons throughout the year that aligned to the 5th grade science curriculum. She worked to raise money for supplies and connected with Mrs. Bridgeman around planning and coordinating the science experiments. Today’s experiment aligned with what students have been learning in science around chemical and physical changes. Students were excited to see a past Franklinville student engaging with them to strengthen their learning. We appreciate her time and all of the preparation that went into making this experience one that they will remember!
