Cross-Curricular Learning: Exploring Fall Through Music, Literature and Science

Mrs. McSweeney’s 3rd grade class at Level Cross Elementary read Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert in Mrs. Walker’s music class.  Students discussed which instrument should represent the wind.  They added the wind sound along with other instruments and scarves to represent the leaves to complement the story.  Then Mrs. Walker led the students in a science experiment where they learned the carotenoid pigments are always hiding behind the chlorophyll until the leaves start changing colors for fall.  What wonderful cross-curricular learning!
