Randleman High School DECA members recently took their leadership skills beyond the classroom, spending a day volunteering with the Miracle League of High Point. The service opportunity marked the first time RHS DECA has partnered with the organization and gave students a meaningful way to connect with and serve others in their community.
The Miracle League provides individuals of all abilities the opportunity to participate in the game, build friendships, have fun, and enjoy an environment where everyone is welcomed and celebrated.
Throughout the day, RHS DECA members worked alongside Miracle League participants, offering encouragement and support while sharing plenty of smiles and laughter. Students stepped up wherever they were needed, celebrated participants’ accomplishments, and quickly discovered that serving others can be just as rewarding for the volunteers as it is for those they serve.
The experience also allowed students to demonstrate many of the qualities RHS DECA works to develop in its members, including leadership, communication, teamwork, responsibility, and service to others.
For the organization’s advisor, watching those qualities emerge naturally throughout the day was particularly meaningful.
“As their DECA advisor, I see these students every day in the classroom and around school, but I don’t always get the opportunity to see them completely be themselves,” Kelly Palmer, the DECA advisor, said. “I got to see a different side of them—laughing, smiling, connecting with others, stepping up to help, and genuinely enjoying every moment. Seeing their hearts shine through moments like these is what makes being their DECA advisor so worth it. I couldn’t have been more proud of them.”
While DECA is widely recognized for preparing emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in areas such as marketing, finance, hospitality, and management, experiences like this one also give students opportunities to develop leadership through service.
For RHS DECA members, the day reinforced lessons that extend far beyond academics and competition. By serving alongside Miracle League participants, students experienced firsthand the importance of kindness, inclusion, empathy, and creating a community where everyone has the opportunity to belong.
Randleman High School DECA is grateful to the Miracle League of High Point for welcoming its members and providing them with the opportunity to participate in such a meaningful day.
For RHS DECA, the organization’s first experience with the Miracle League was more than a volunteer opportunity. It was a chance for students to lead through service, build relationships, and see the difference they can make in their community—one smile, one encouraging word, and one act of kindness at a time.
