John Lawrence celebrated the incredible learning our students have been doing this year with letters and sounds on Letterland Day, March 19, 2026. Students and teachers alike dressed as their favorite letterland characters. Kindergarten and first grade students and teachers started the day with a parade around the building for all the other students, complete with the Letterland theme song. Students enjoyed a Letterland snack with foods to represent each letter of the alphabet and there were special Letterland activities like “Abbie Apple’s acrobats”, “necklaces with Noisy Nick”, “Vicky Violet’s vehicles” or “playtime with Peter Puppy”.
Some of our favorite events of the day included a very special visit from Wheatmore High School’s Voices of Valor (friends of Vicky Violet) who, under the direction of Lamar Martin, engaged our students with fun and interactive songs. We also enjoyed a special visit from Officer Gurley of the Chapel Hill police department in the afternoon.
We are so proud of the work our students are doing to learn letters and sounds, blending and reading words! Letterland Day was, in the words of many kindergarteners, “The Best Day Ever!”
