The Student Council at Trinity Elementary honored Election Day with a vote of their own. Student Council members helped educate our school community about Election Day and its significance. Fourth- and fifth-grade representatives were given the opportunity to run for Student Council President. Candidates requested recommendations for the position by asking staff to complete a short questionnaire. Throughout the week, candidates created and displayed campaign posters, recorded videos explaining why they would be strong leaders, and shared their messages with each classroom. They also worked hard to remind students about the upcoming election.
This experience not only taught students about the election process but also strengthened our sense of community. Students from all grade levels came together to learn, discuss, and participate in an event that highlighted the importance of having a voice and supporting one another.
On Election Day, each class received official ballots. Students selected their preferred candidate, submitted their ballots into the ballot box, and received an “I Voted” sticker to celebrate their participation. One student said to their teacher, "Hey, these are like the stickers my parents get when they vote!"
Results were tallied promptly, and we were excited to announce our new Student Council President (first place) and Vice President (second place). It was an exciting, learning experience for all students!
