A message from Mrs. Cogley:

I wanted to update you on our achievements this past weekend at the District 5 Hunter Safety Team Tournament. Competing against more than 50 teams, Uwharrie Ridge took home the following:

1st Overall Jr. Division

1st Jr. Division Archery

3rd Jr. Division Trap

3rd Jr. Division Hunter Skills

Aiden Perdue won Top Individual in the Jr. Division for all areas combined. He and Gus Byrd also shot perfect scores of 20/20 in trap and competed in shooting doubles in trap, being 2 out of only 3 middle schoolers to do so at the tournament.

In addition, our Sr. Team made us extremely proud by winning the Fred Rorrer Award in recognition of exemplary sportsmanship, respect, attitude, and above all, safety. Our school was nominated and voted on by wildlife officers as standing above others in these areas to receive this award, further establishing the integrity of our team and the success we have had in teaching our youth these vital skills through our hunter education programs.

Our Jr. A Team will progress to the State Tournament on April 28th and recognize Randolph County as the only middle school team from our home county present. Wish us luck!

Please congratulate our hard-working students when you see them. It is very well-deserved!
