During October, the Junior Civitans helped Archdale United Methodist Church with "The Pumpkin Patch." They helped unload the pumpkins, and volunteered to read to and entertain elementary age children coming to select their special pumpkins.

Thirty students in Thespian Troupe 4305 dressed up in costume and went door to door in selected neighboorhoods to participate and collect non-perishable food items for the "Trick or Treat so Kids Can Eat" program . They collected about 500 pounds of food for C.O.A.T.  Nationally, Thespians collects over a 1/2 million pounds each year through this effort.

Junior Civitans celebrated "World Civitan Day" by cleaning up Creekside Park in Archdale. They collected bags of trash from the tennis courts, the baseball field, the greenway, the walking path, and the main parking lot. Officer Sisk of the Archdale Police Department stopped by to personally thank the Civitans for their community service.

AFJROTC-
We recently shipped a crate of donated items and letters to the soldiers of Delta Company. These soldiers are currently deployed to Afghanistan. Zach Scott and Josh Meadows of WHS built the crate for us. We also just shipped our 1st batch of Coupons for Soldiers to our adopted location of Lakenheath, United Kingdom. The conservative value of these coupons was $55,526.00. That is an awesome achievement and we appreciate the THS/WHS teachers, staff, and students who donated as well as those who clipped and snipped to make this happen before Christmas.

AFJROTC - 15 Years of Dedicated Service
24 September 2010
By Cadet 1Lt Krista Keith
(Trinity High School AFJROTC Public Affairs Officer)

For fifteen years, AFJROTC Cadets at Trinity High School and now Wheatmore have participated in a special community service activity known as Adopt-A-Highway. This is a voluntary program created to help keep our roads and highways clean. When a volunteer group participates, they are assigned a specific stretch of road or highway. At least four times a year, cadets muster early on Saturday mornings to remove unsightly litter from our community. The cadets began this service in March of 1995 with 17 participants removing trash around Trinity High School and portions of Surrett Drive. After a proper safety briefing, the cadets courageously attack the area. Cadets are rewarded after each session with delicious brownies and soft drinks provided by Lt Col Ray Carter’s wife Brenda. Cadets also earn Service Ribbons from SMSgt Jim Hedgecock for such faithful service. The unit recently received a very special letter from the North Carolina Department of Transportation. The letter congratulated Trinity AFJROTC for its 15-year service in protecting the environment and enhancing the quality of life for all North Carolinians. The unit also received 15-year stars to place on their Adopt-A-Highway signs. During this labor of love, over 1,337 cadets have met 51 times and completed 2,672 community service hours. Together, they have collected over 1,541 bags of trash. Cadets are always awed by what they discover along our roadways. Lt Col Carter and SMSgt Hedgecock estimate that during these adventures over 400 discarded automobile tires plus refrigerators and other home appliances have been removed. They added that such significant achievements keep the cadets smiling in the knowledge they are making a huge difference in their environment and community. SMSgt Hedgecock stated that he hopes such success will show others how dedicated our teenagers can be with the right influence and direction in their lives.
