Science Rocks!
Dear Parents,
I am excited to announce that our initial Science Club Day was a success! I have been looking forward to this time when the students would be allowed to take the information learned thus far, expand upon it and then perform scientific experiments. This week we began by extending our knowledge of animal science by distinguishing differences between cold and warm blooded creatures. Humans can learn a lot about ourselves by studying the animals. We explored how our surroundings briefly affect our normal body temperature. We first made our predictions, then using good scientific method; we tested and collected our data. We were able to incorporate a computer software program into the lesson which tracked our change in temperature over time. This was a fun and productive way to practice representing data, which was previously introduced in our math classes as we also, experienced how technology is used by scientists. I believe that prior knowledge obtained in the classroom, along with hands on experiences enhance further learning for each child. In cooperation with the Randolph County Cooperative Extension Service, Soil and Water Conservation Department and the North Carolina Zoo, I have prepared challenging, yet fun activities for the students.
If at all possible, please allow your child to attend each Science Club Day session. The only requirement is that you make sure to pick your child up after each session promptly at 3:15 in the back circle.
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at 824-2306 Ext#111.
Thank You for allowing me the opportunity to share in the life of your child.
