WELCOME
Welcome to Braxton Craven School. We are happy to have you with us and we trust that this school year will be a successful one for you. Braxton Craven has a great deal to offer you in both learning and enjoyment. We encourage you to take an active part in all of our programs.
This handbook has been prepared with you in mind and contains information about our school’s general rules and procedures. These rules and procedures have been established to create an atmosphere that is beneficial to everyone. However, no attempt has been made to include all the school and system procedures. Various situations arise from time to time that will be addressed on an individual basis.
Please take the time to read this handbook, keep it with you, and use it as a valuable tool for communication. We believe that this will be an exciting and challenging year for you.

ASBESTOS HAZARD EMERGENCY RESPONSE ACT (AHERA) NOTIFICATION STATEMENT
In 1988 all Randolph County Schools were inspected for Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM) according to the rules established by the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA). The inspection results and the Randolph County Schools plan concerning asbestos were compiled into a Management Plan for each school. Each school’s Management Plan is available to the public for inspection upon request.
Interested parties should contact the Principal or the LEA Designee to arrange for an inspection of the Management Plan.
This year the required three year re-inspection will be conducted. Any damaged or deteriorated asbestos will be repaired or replaced before the beginning of the school year. The periodic surveillance results are located in Volume 2 of the AHERA Notebook.
Any questions concerning this school’s Management Plan can be addressed to the school principal and if not resolved at that level can be directed to Allen Kerns the Randolph County Schools LEA Designee at 318-6096.
RESPECT FOR SCHOOL STAFF
AND THE EDUCATIONAL ATMOSPHERE
The faculty at Braxton Craven School is ready to help you in any way. The instructional program in the classrooms is of a high quality. Students whose behaviors are disruptive or disrespectful will be dealt with by the administration so that their behavior does not interfere with anyone else’s right to learn or their teacher’s responsibility to teach.
Students should conduct themselves in a respectful and cooperative manner at all times that they are under the supervision of responsible adults while at school and on school buses or school sponsored activities. The adults are here to monitor and model appropriate behavior. If a student disagrees with the directive of a responsible adult, they remain obligated to be respectful at all times.
Failure to comply with a reasonable request made by a staff member will result in disciplinary action.
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
Throughout life there are rules, regulations, policies and procedures that we must follow. At Braxton Craven School students are expected to obey the policies outlined in the Randolph County Code of Conduct as well as the rules set forth in this handbook. Each student will be treated with dignity and respect and it is expected each will behave in the same manner.
Our teachers are dedicated to maintaining a safe and orderly school environment where every child has the opportunity to learn. Students must accept the authority of the teacher and other school personnel.
