Accelerate the Truth...READ!
All Students have an opportunity to participate in the Accelerated Reader program at Braxton Craven School. Accelerated Reader is a program which motivates to students to read. Each school selects AR titles to match the literature appropriate for the curriculum, the level, and the enjoyment of the students. Students are rewarded with activities for reading and for meeting individual reading goals.

| Quizzes are the foundation of the AR program. They help teachers measure students' comprehension of books. This includes books the student read independently, books read to the student , or books read by the student with an adult or in class. If a student has read a book at the proper level, quizzes are designed to motivate him or her and to allow teachers to monitor reading practice. |
| Our quiz list is provided to each teacher and is available in the media center. Since Accelerated Reader is available at all computers at Braxton Craven students may take tests at various computers throughout the school. |

Braxton Craven Literacy Skills Test List |
| Literacy tests are designed to measure students' higher-level reading and critical thinking skills with in the context of a book. These tests help teacher monitor students' development in 24 specific reading and critical-thinking skills found most often in the language arts section of standardized tests. |

STAR READING
|
| STAR Reading is a computer based reading level assessment. The program identifies a student's reading level based on vocabulary knowledge and comprehension of sentences and paragraphs of text. Check with your child's Language Arts teacher for details on their Star Reading assessment and how you can use the results to help improve their reading. |
