Do I have to take Driver Ed?
- Yes, if you want to get a learner's permit or license before you are eighteen years old.
Does it cost anything?
- Yes and No. No, there is not a fee to take the classroom phase of Driver Education. Yes, starting July 1, 2011 a $45 fee is to be paid before the student can take enter the car phase of Driver Education. This should be paid early in the class session and to the school treasurer where the course is being offered.
How old must I be before I am eligible to take Driver Ed?
- To be eligible you must be fourteen and a half.
Which comes first the book or driving section?
- The book section comes before you drive.
When can I get a learner's permit?
- A person can get a learner's permit at fifteen years old if both phases of Driver Education have been completed.
Can a person get a learner's permit without having taken driver Education?
- Absolutely not, unless you are over eighteen years of age.
Do I have to get a learner's permit before I get a license?
- Yes, unless you are over eighteen years of age.
How long do I have to drive on a learner's permit?
- One full year from the date the permit is issued.
Who can a student drive with when he/she has a learner's permit?
- Student will have one or two designated supervisor's that are designated by DMV, usually the parents of the student.
After twelve months with a learner's permit can a person get a license?
- Yes, but the last six months must be ticket free and this license will only allow students to drive between the hours of 5:00am and 9:00pm. We call this Level 2.
How long does a student drive on this curfew license(Level 2)?
- Six months and it must be ticket free for six months to move to the next level.
During Level 2, can a student drive without supervision?
- No supervision is required between 5:00am and 9:00pm. After 9:00pm, a designated supervisor must be in the front seat of the car.
When can a student get a regular license?
- After a student successfully completes Level 1 and Level 2, a regular license can be obtained. This is called Level 3.
When should students register and take Driver Ed bookwork?
- How old do you want to be when you get a regular, unrestricted license? If you wish to get your restricted driver's license as soon as possible, you will be sixteen and a half. You will not be allowed to get this Level 3 license until you have completed both Level 1 and Level 2.
When do Driver Education teachers recommend to take the class?
- Register for book work as soon as you become fourteen and a half if a class is being offered.
Why not wait until about fifteen years old, then take Driver Ed?
- Completing the class part and the car part can take two to three months. If you want your permit when you turn fifteen years old, you should enroll in a class months in advance of your fifteenth birthday.
