Uwharrie Ridge earns top awards at District 5 Hunter Safety tournament

Uwharrie Ridge Hunter Safety Team

At the recent District 5 Hunter Safety Team Tournament, Uwharrie Ridge Six-Twelve competed against more than 50 teams and brought home the following awards:

1st Overall Junior Division

1st Junior Division Archery

3rd Junior Division Trap

3rd Junior Division Hunter Skills

Aiden Perdue won Top Individual in the Junior Division for all areas combined. He and Gus Byrd also shot perfect scores of 20/20 in trap and competed in shooting doubles in trap, being 2 out of only 3 middle schoolers to do so at the tournament.

In addition, the Uwharrie Ridge Senior Team won the Fred Rorrer Award in recognition of exemplary sportsmanship, respect, attitude, and above all, safety. Uwharrie Ridge was nominated and voted on by wildlife officers as standing above others in these areas to receive this award, further establishing the integrity of the team and the success the young team members have had in developing vital skills through hunter education programs.

The Junior A Team will progress to the State Tournament on April 28 as the only middle school team from Randolph County at the competition.

Congratulations to these hard-working students on their well-deserved awards!
