Read aloud and shared reading is alternated during the connected literacy block to expose students to grade level complex text in a supported framework.  Literature and informational texts are utilized to focus on a specific strategy or skill.  This skill is introduced and practiced in the whole group mini-lesson and reinforced in the guided reading component.  During this component, students "read like a detective" to find answers to text-based questions.
