-"Social Networking" is the use of electronic communication to create online communities for sharing information, ideas, personal messages, and other content (e.g. photos, videos).
-"Social Media" refers to the websites and applications that enable users to participate in social networking. Examples of social media are Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, Flickr, MySpace, and many others.
-The Randolph County School System has an official Facebook page and an official Twitter account.
-Individual schools do not have official Facebook pages.
-RCSS employees are allowed to have personal Facebook accounts, but they are prohibited from using these accounts to "friend" or communicate with current students.
-Individual schools and groups within the school may have Twitter accounts.
-There are two types of Twitter accounts: PERSONAL and SCHOOL-CONTROLLED.
-RCSS employees are NOT allowed to use PERSONAL Twitter accounts to "follow" current students, have current students as "followers" or communicate with current students.
-RCSS employees ARE allowed to use SCHOOL-CONTROLLED Twitter accounts to "follow" current students, have current students as "followers" or communicate with current students.
PERSONAL Twitter accounts are characterized by the following two criteria:
1) A personal email address is used to set up the account.
2) The account is not "registered" with RCSS. To register, the account owner completes and submits a Social Media Account Request Form to the school principal or RCSS public information officer.
SCHOOL-CONTROLLED Twitter accounts are characterized by the following two criteria:
1) An RCSS email address is used to set up the account.
2) The account is "registered" with RCSS. To register, the account owner completes and submits a Social Media Account Request Form to the school principal or RCSS public information officer.
